What & How I Edit

I provide copyediting and proofreading services for all kinds of content, currently specializing in personal essays and statements, business and non-profit content marketing, and works of fiction.

My editing philosophy is rooted in an investment in understanding your goals and purpose, as well as in time-honored and accepted grammar and punctuation rules–not fun, but necessary! Occasionally, of course, we need to bend the rules. That’s why I’m here. I am passionate about ensuring each edit suggestion I make helps your content–whether it’s part of a caption underneath a chart or a key piece of character dialogue–most clearly contributes to the meaning you wish to achieve. I edit most often in Chicago style, but can also flex in AP style. You’re also more than welcome to provide a different style guide.

My editing experiences include copyediting and proofreading work for the Amazon best-selling novelist Toby Neighbors, the Center on Reinventing Public Education at Arizona State University, and private clients’ academic applications. Selected testimonials are below. Other editing experiences include working in internal marketing communications at Google and writing executive summaries for Disney executives. And of course, my blog posts on this site should give you a sense of my ear for voice and my respect for the craft of writing.

Jennifer is a thorough and efficient editor with great attention to detail. We’ve used her services on everything from short blogs to 50+ page reports and have always been thrilled with the results. We would recommend her to anyone searching for a top-tier copy editor and proofreader.

Emily Prymula, Communications Manager for The Center on Reinventing Public Education

Jennifer is a fantastic book editor and proofreader. She is my go to source for copy editing, and has worked on over a dozen full length novel manuscripts, preparing them for publication. I can rely on her to provide top quality work in a timely fashion. She’s easy to work with, hits her deadlines, and keeps up with all the details of my stories straight, ensuring that my readers are happy. I can’t recommend her enough.

Toby Neighbors, best-selling author

Jennifer provides an objective set of eyes on making sure your words match your voice and the message you want to get across. She was a great proofreader of my personal statements and offered her valuable advice on how to be both personal and concise.

Andy H, graduate of Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge

Jenn is awesome! She is very professional and provides tailored suggestions when it comes to editing and proofreading. She helps you come across as a strong and clear communicator on paper. I got into the graduate school of my dreams thanks to Jenn’s help with editing my application essays. She is also great with resumes and professional documents.

Patty N, accepted to the Align MS in Computer Science program at Northeastern University

Finally, know that I am continuously pursuing editing education to keep my skills and judgment sharp. As one example, while social distancing and quarantining, I completed a certificate course by the Poynter Institute for Media Studies and ACES: The Society for Editing. And as authors will tell you, the best way to improve your writing is to always be reading. I am a frequent reader of both fiction and non-fiction. Organizing my Goodreads page hasn’t been my highest priority lately, but you can check out my bookshelves here.
